Town & Country

A London bus crosses the old Alexandra Palace to Finsbury Park railway, now the Parkland Walk . Trains ran this line between the 1860s and 1970. The tracks were lifted in 1972 and the stations demolished. It was opened as a walking route in 1984 and declared a nature reserve – London longest nature reserve, no less – in 1990. It's now also part of the Capital Ring. Visit the Parkland Walk website HERE . Dolphin Lamp Standards Swimming Far Away

Image
I'm back on the streets leading tours in London after a short break hiking in the Scottish Borders, where I spotted this… George John Vulliamy designed the ornamental sturgeon lamp bases - often called Dolphin Lamp Standards - along the  Thames Embankment  in  London  for a competition in 1870. This specimen is a long way from home - on the Tweed Bridge at Peebles. The Writing's On the Wall

My current favourite piece of street art. Find it by the King's Stores pub in Spitalfields, right on the cusp of the City of London… ••• This blog features photos snapped with either a Canon 500D or an iPhone6 as I make my way Londoning around leading & researching my tours. And Now The Weather…

Frieze Sculpture 2019 is the largest outdoor art exhibition in London. Staged in Regent's Park it features the work of 20 international artists and runs until October. In this dreary wet August, my tour guide sensibilities were particularly drawn to this piece… ••• This blog features photos snapped with either a Canon 500D or an iPhone6 as I make my way Londoning around leading & researching my tours. It's All In The Detail…

This panel on the wall beside the escalator at Tottenham Court Road tube station. Look closely at the screw on the right. #ThrowbackThursday What's On Your Shopping List?

Throwback Thursday… This shop on Old Compton Street has been gone for years. But it's not been forgotten. I always thought it would also make a good stage name or  nome de plume … ••• This blog features photos snapped with either a Canon 500D or an iPhone6 as I make my way Londoning around leading & researching my tours.
